He studied at the Otto Krause National College of Technical Education and participated in workshops led by artists such as Alberto Jaime, Mario Mosteiro, Aldo Grau, Fredy Martinez Howard, and Miguel Caride during the 1970s and 80s. Fonda's artistic tendencies are rooted in the Ro de la Plata Constructivist school, influenced by the work of Uruguayan artist
